Why are my search results empty or missing airlines?

If flights seem missing, prices don’t match, or an airline site shows different availability than seats.aero, there are a few common reasons why this happens.

1. Availability may have changed

Award availability changes constantly, especially for premium cabins and popular routes.

Sometimes a result shown in seats.aero may:

  • no longer be bookable
  • already be taken
  • or be temporarily stale/cached

This is more common on highly competitive programs and routes.

2. Airline sites may show expanded or logged-in inventory

Some airlines show additional award space to:

  • elite members
  • co-branded credit card holders
  • logged-in users
  • or members booking through the airline’s own loyalty program

That inventory may not appear through partner searches or third-party tools.

3. Passenger count matters

Searching for 4 business-class seats is very different from searching for 1 seat.

An airline may show:

  • 1–2 seats available
  • but not 4 together

This is one of the most common reasons users see flights manually that do not appear in search results.

4. Search and Explore behave differently

  • Search is designed for specific route/date searches and may use live refreshes depending on your plan/settings.
  • Explore is optimized for broad discovery and direct-route scanning.

Some routes or itineraries may appear differently between the two tools.

5. Dynamic pricing differences

Some airlines use dynamic award pricing.

Depending on your settings:

  • certain dynamic results may be filtered
  • saver-level and dynamically priced awards may appear differently
  • pricing may differ between loyalty programs for the exact same flight

Try enabling:

  • “Show all dynamic results”
  • broader date ranges
  • nearby airports

6. Routing and airport logic

Search results are affected by:

  • nearby airport settings
  • allowed stops
  • operating carrier vs partner carrier availability
  • one-way vs round-trip searches
  • routing logic

For example:

  • BOS → FCO

    may produce different results than:

  • BOS → Europe

    or:

  • BOS → all Rome-area airports

What to try next

  • Search one-way instead of round-trip
  • Reduce passenger count
  • Expand your date range
  • Add nearby airports
  • Enable dynamic results
  • Compare Search vs Explore
  • Verify availability directly on the airline site

Still think something is wrong?

Please include:

  • route
  • date
  • airline/program
  • passenger count
  • cabin
  • screenshots
  • where you saw the alternate availability (airline site, Avios, Aeroplan, etc.)
  • whether you have airline status or a co-branded airline card

That helps us determine whether the issue is:

  • stale/cached data
  • expanded inventory
  • partner-program differences
  • dynamic pricing differences
  • or a real bug
