How to Use Price History on Seats.aero
Price History (also called Fare History) lets you see how award seat availability and pricing have changed over time. Instead of only seeing what is available today, you can spot trends, identify patterns, and decide the best time to book.
What Is Price History?
Price History charts show the lowest award prices and seat counts for a nonstop route over time.
Data is collected automatically as Seats.aero searches airline award systems.
This helps you answer questions like:
- When do business class seats usually appear on this route?
- Do award prices drop closer to departure?
- How often does this airline release availability?
How to Find Price History
- Run a search on Seats.aero.
- In the results table, look for the small “i” information icon next to a fare.
- Click the icon.
- In the popup, select Fare History.
If we have enough data for that route and fare, a chart will appear showing availability and price changes.
Example Use Cases
- Track release patterns: See if airlines tend to release award seats at the 330-day mark or closer to departure.
- Compare cabins: Check if business class space opens more frequently than economy on a route.
- Decide when to book: Use history to know if waiting might pay off or if seats tend to disappear quickly.
Limitations
- Price History is only available on routes and programs where we have collected enough data.
- Not every fare will show a history chart. Major routes (like JFK–LHR or LAX–HND) usually have more complete data.
- Data reflects what partners publish — if an airline holds back award seats for its own members, that will not appear in our charts.
Tips
- Use Price History together with Continuous Alerts to maximize your chances of booking the best seats.
- For the clearest view, focus on nonstop routes where we track large amounts of data.
